FLOYDIAN CONQUESTS pt 1
(this is the accompanying short story for the "Floydian Conquests Volume One" album)
the year is 2020
earth is immersed in a global lockdown due to the spread of the covid 19 pandemic.
Only those deemed absolutely necessary to the human workforce are allowed to continue their day to day routines and employments.
Our protagonist “Essential” is embarking on his first day outside since the lockdowns and is simultaneously awestruck, disillusioned yet inspired by the atmosphere of the planet in its current empty”shut down” state. Many light years away in the cosmos,Planet Methora is preparing for the start of one of their many “fledgling” expeditions to a foreign planet as part of a rights of passage ritual for a member of their younger generation. this brings us to the first track “preparing liftofff”; :a young Ames of Planet Methora is in bewilderment and awe yet also strongly inspired but careful as he mans the seat for his first ever interplanetary journey, final Destination :Earth.part one of Track 2 : “blast off “, is the sound of Young Ames blasting off courageously through Methora’s atmosphere and into the great unknown :Space. Part 2 of track 2 “Landing” is the sound of Ames’ slightly rocky but successful landing on Earth.
Meanwhile back in “Essential Land” on Earth,Our man, Essential is on his way home returning from work and is worn out and utterly depressed with his and his planet’s current situation. this sets the stage for track 3 “A funeral dirge for human hope”.
After checking in to his residence and “taking it down” for the night , Essential finishes dinner and decides to relax with some Netlfix, when he hears a strange but alluring vibration outside of his home- it’s Ames and his crew’s spaceship who have just landed in a neighboring parking lot— !Essential cannot believe his eyes or ears as he peers intently through his living room blinds at the giant spectacle. this is the setting for the sounds of track 4 —“Spaceship Fleet Arrival”.as the celebrations begin outside of Ames’ successfully landed spaceship, his crew and elders congratulate him and share interplanetary alcoholic beverages… the rest of Essential’s neighborhood is too scared to even look outside having been completely brainwashed and glued to their screens ignoring the outside world due to television and social media hypnosis. As soon as Essential sees these aliens relaxing, celebrating and sharing what he sees as “Space Beer?” his curiosity gets the best of him and he darts to the exit to greet his new intergalactic future drinking buddies.
As he welcomes them to Earth and explains the idiocy of his fellow earthlings, he quickly makes friends with the entire crew and shares this utterly delicious new space brew. Essential convinces Ames to agree to take him for a ride in the Spaceship and asks if he can come see Methora because, “as anyone can plainly see , Earth in its current state of shackles and fear is no place to be . “ the Elders agree only under the condition that one of them (instead of young inexperienced Ames) mans the controls for Essential’s one stop all expenses (and beer!) paid trip to Methora!
the spaceship slowly leaves earth’s atmosphere and enters space—- this is the setting for the sounds of “Realization of Existentialism” -the soundtrack of our man Essential in a spaceship, buzzed on Moon Beer, and just realizing the awesomeness of his existence. After arriving to Methora, the whole crew including Essential are greeted with another sacred ritual called the “mudmen dance” where everyone in the village dances in the mud in front of ancient Methora structures to celebrate the great architectural achievements of their great planet’s ancestors. Essential joins them and is thereby publicly deemed by the elders and the villagers as an honorary Methorite , …and he vows to never come back. (…..for NOW)
